Ingredients

For the Texas Toast

  • 1 box frozen garlic Texas Toast (8 slices)

For the Au Jus

  • 1 packet au jus gravy mix
  • 3 cups cold water

For the Sandwiches

  • 1 pound sliced deli roast beef
  • 8 slices provolone cheese (divided into halves)
  • Dried parsley, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a sheet tray with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  2. Cook Texas Toast: Bake 1 box of frozen garlic Texas Toast according to package directions, typically for 8 minutes, flipping halfway through to ensure even toasting.
  3. Prepare Au Jus: While the toast bakes, prepare the au jus by mixing 1 packet of gravy mix with 3 cups of cold water, following the package instructions until fully combined and heated.
  4. Heat Roast Beef: Place 1 pound of sliced deli roast beef into the warm au jus to heat through, infusing the beef with rich flavor.
  5. Assemble Sandwiches: On each slice of cooked Texas Toast, place a half slice of provolone cheese. Add warm slices of roast beef evenly on top of the cheese.
  6. Add Remaining Cheese: Layer the remaining half slices of provolone cheese on top of the roast beef to create a cheesy sandwich stack.
  7. Melt Cheese: Return the assembled sandwiches to the oven and bake for 3-5 minutes, or until the provolone cheese is fully melted and bubbly.
  8. Garnish and Serve: Optionally sprinkle dried parsley on top for a fresh touch. Serve immediately with the au jus on the side for dipping each sandwich.

Notes

  • You can substitute provolone cheese with mozzarella or Swiss if desired.
  • For a spicier kick, add a dash of horseradish or hot sauce to the au jus.
  • The roast beef can also be warmed gently on a stovetop if preferred.
  • If a gluten-free option is needed, use gluten-free bread and verify the au jus mix is gluten-free.
  • Make sure to flip the Texas Toast halfway through baking to achieve an evenly toasted texture.
