These Grilled Green Beans Foil Packets are a simple and flavorful side dish perfect for outdoor grilling. Fresh green beans are seasoned with garlic powder, salt, and pepper, then wrapped securely in foil with olive oil and water to steam perfectly over medium heat, resulting in tender, smoky green beans with minimal cleanup.

Ingredients

Vegetables

  • 1 pound green beans, washed and trimmed

Seasonings & Oil

  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon water

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Grill: Preheat a clean grill to medium heat, aiming for a temperature between 350–400°F. This ensures a steady, moderate heat for cooking the green beans evenly without burning.
  2. Assemble the Foil Packet: Lay out a 12” x 24” piece of heavy-duty aluminum foil. Spread the green beans evenly in the center of the foil, creating a single layer. Fold up the edges around the beans to form a shallow tray to hold the oil and water.
  3. Season the Green Beans: Sprinkle the ground black pepper, salt, and garlic powder evenly over the green beans. Drizzle with the tablespoon of olive oil and the tablespoon of water to add moisture and flavor during cooking.
  4. Seal the Foil Packet: Carefully fold the ends of the foil in towards each other tightly to form a sealed packet. Wrap the entire packet again with a second layer of foil to prevent any punctures or leaks during grilling.
  5. Grill the Packets: Place the foil packet directly on the grill grates over medium heat. Close the grill lid and cook for 8 minutes. Then, carefully flip the packet over and grill for another 8 minutes with the lid closed.
  6. Check for Doneness and Serve: Carefully open the foil packet, avoiding steam burns, and test a green bean from the center for tenderness. If done to your liking, remove the packet from the grill and serve the green beans warm as a delicious side dish.

Notes

  • Use heavy-duty aluminum foil to prevent tearing during grilling.
  • Adjust seasoning to taste; add red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.
  • For extra flavor, add minced garlic or a squeeze of lemon juice before sealing.
  • These packets can also be made on a charcoal grill or gas grill.
  • Be cautious when opening the foil packets as steam will escape and can cause burns.
