This DIY Lavender Chocolate Chips recipe teaches you how to create delicate, aromatic chocolate chips infused with lavender flavor and a hint of purple color. Perfect for adding a unique twist to your baked goods, these homemade chips are crafted from white chocolate, coconut oil, and lavender candy oil, then piped and frozen to hold their shape. A simple yet elegant way to bring floral notes and visual appeal to cookies, cakes, and desserts.

Ingredients

Chocolate Base

  • 6 oz (170 g) white chocolate chips
  • 1 tsp coconut oil (or shortening)

Flavoring & Coloring

  • 3 drops lavender candy oil
  • A few drops purple oil-based food coloring

Instructions

  1. Melt Chocolate Chips: Begin by adding the white chocolate chips and coconut oil to a microwave-safe bowl or heat-proof bowl if using stovetop. If microwaving, heat in 20-second intervals, stirring after each until completely melted. For stovetop, set the bowl over a simmering pot of water ensuring the bowl does not touch the water, stirring until fully melted, then remove from heat.
  2. Add Lavender Oil and Coloring: Once the chocolate mixture is melted, add in the lavender candy oil and a few drops of purple oil-based food coloring. Be cautious with the lavender oil as it is potent; 3 drops usually gives a lovely floral taste.
  3. Mix Well: Gently stir until the lavender oil and food coloring are fully incorporated and no streaks of color remain visible, creating an even lavender-purple hue throughout the chocolate.
  4. Transfer into Pastry Bag: Pour the chocolate mixture into a disposable piping bag and snip off a small tip to allow precise piping of small chocolate chips.
  5. Pipe Chocolate Chips: Line a small cookie sheet with wax or parchment paper. Pipe small dots of the chocolate mixture onto the paper, mimicking the size and shape of classic chocolate chips, until all the mixture is used.
  6. Freeze Chocolate Chips: Place the cookie sheet in the freezer for 10 to 15 minutes or until the piped chocolate chips are fully solidified and set.
  7. Release and Store: Carefully peel the chocolate chips off the wax or parchment paper. If needed, gently bend the paper to help release them. Transfer the lavender chocolate chips to an airtight container and store in the freezer or refrigerator until ready to use.

Notes

  • Adjust Lavender Flavor: The lavender candy oil is potent; start with one drop and increase gradually. Three drops provide a lovely flavor but adjust to your preference to avoid overpowering your desserts.
  • Color Variation: White chocolate color varies by brand. Start with a few drops of purple food coloring and add more to reach your desired shade. You can use white food coloring to lighten or blue food coloring to deepen the purple hue as needed.
