This Olive Hummus is a creamy, flavorful vegan and gluten-free spread that’s perfect as a dip or accompaniment. Made with pitted olives, chickpeas, tahini, and olive oil, it blends quickly into a smooth and delicious hummus with a hint of garlic and a pinch of salt for balance.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 15 oz (400 g) olives, pitted (plus more for garnish)
  • 1 15 oz (400 g) can chickpeas, drained
  • 2-3 tablespoons tahini
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil plus more for garnish
  • ½ cup (120 ml) water
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1-2 garlic cloves (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Drain the chickpeas and pit the olives if not already pitted. Peel the garlic cloves if using.
  2. Combine Ingredients: Transfer the pitted olives, drained chickpeas, tahini, olive oil, water, salt, and garlic cloves into a blender.
  3. Blend: Process all ingredients in the blender until the mixture is creamy and smooth. You may need to stop occasionally to scrape down the sides to ensure even blending.
  4. Serve: Transfer the hummus to a serving bowl. Garnish with additional olives and a drizzle of olive oil. Enjoy as a dip or spread with your favorite bread, vegetables, or crackers.

Notes

  • You can adjust the amount of tahini and olive oil to achieve your desired creaminess and flavor.
  • For a milder garlic flavor, use only one clove or omit it altogether.
  • If the hummus is too thick, add water a tablespoon at a time to reach preferred consistency.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
  • This recipe is naturally vegan and gluten-free; ensure tahini does not contain any gluten if sensitivity is a concern.
