Ingredients

Cheese Mixture

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups shredded pepper jack cheese
  • 3 jalapenos, seeded and diced
  • 2 tablespoons sriracha sauce

Coating

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • ½ cup panko bread crumbs
  • ½ cup plain bread crumbs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

For Frying

  • Peanut oil or canola oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare Cheese Mixture: In a large bowl, mix together the softened cream cheese, shredded pepper jack cheese, diced jalapenos, and sriracha sauce until evenly combined.
  2. Form Cheese Balls: Scoop the cheese mixture and form into bite-sized balls. Place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze for 30 minutes to firm up.
  3. Prepare Breading Stations: Place the all-purpose flour in one bowl, the beaten eggs in a second bowl, and in a third bowl, combine the panko bread crumbs, plain bread crumbs, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, black pepper, and salt.
  4. Heat Oil: Heat peanut or canola oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C), ensuring enough oil to fully submerge the bites for even frying.
  5. Bread the Cheese Balls: Remove the cheese balls from the freezer. Dip each ball first in the flour, then into the beaten eggs, and finally coat them thoroughly with the breadcrumb mixture.
  6. Fry the Bites: Fry several bites at once in the hot oil for 2 to 3 minutes, or until they turn golden brown and crispy on the outside.
  7. Drain Excess Oil: Remove the bites with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel-lined plate to remove excess oil.
  8. Store Leftovers: Let bites cool completely before storing leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator or freezer. Reheat as needed.

Notes

  • Reheat jalapeno popper bites in an oven preheated to 375°F for 5-8 minutes or microwave on high for 15-20 seconds for best results.
  • You can prepare the bites ahead of time without frying. Store them in the refrigerator overnight or freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge before frying.
  • Nutrition facts are estimated using only 3 tablespoons of oil absorbed during frying; actual intake may vary based on oil temperature, cooking time, and fryer used.
