This Italian Herbs and Cheese Bread is a perfect blend of savory flavors and warm, soft textures. The combination of mozzarella, Parmesan, and Italian herbs creates a mouthwatering treat, making it a great addition to any meal or enjoyed as a snack.

Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 ¼ teaspoons)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, salt, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder.
  2. Add the warm water and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Stir to form a dough.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down to remove air bubbles, and then fold in the shredded mozzarella, Parmesan, and parsley (if using).
  7. Shape the dough into a loaf and place it on a greased baking sheet or in a loaf pan.
  8. Let the dough rest for 10-15 minutes before baking.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown on top and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  10. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing.

Notes

  • This bread can be made with different cheeses like provolone or gouda for a unique flavor.
  • For a spicier version, add crushed red pepper flakes to the dough.
  • Sun-dried tomatoes or olives can be added for extra flavor.
  • A touch of honey in the dough can create a slightly sweeter version.
  • The bread can be stored at room temperature for 2-3 days or frozen for longer storage.
