Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon soy sauce
Salt and pepper, to taste
1 tablespoon olive oil
4 large russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
1/4 cup milk
2 tablespoons butter
Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
Start by preparing the mashed potatoes. Place the peeled and cubed potatoes into a large pot and cover them with water. Bring to a boil and cook for about 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender.
While the potatoes are cooking, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook for 3-4 minutes until softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Cook for 5-7 minutes, until browned and cooked through.
Sprinkle the flour over the cooked beef mixture, stirring to combine. Gradually pour in the beef broth, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Add the Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Let the mixture simmer for 10 minutes, or until the gravy has thickened to your desired consistency.
While the gravy is simmering, drain the cooked potatoes and return them to the pot. Add butter and milk, then mash the potatoes until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
To serve, place a generous scoop of mashed potatoes on a plate and top with the ground beef and gravy mixture. Garnish with chopped parsley, if desired.
Notes
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
To reheat, warm it up in the microwave or on the stove over low heat, adding a splash of broth or water if the gravy has thickened too much.
If you prefer a thicker gravy, mix a tablespoon of cornstarch with a little water to make a slurry and stir it into the gravy as it simmers.
