Creamy Mushroom Shrimp is a rich and flavorful dish featuring succulent seared shrimp cooked with savory mushrooms and garlic in a luscious Parmesan cream sauce. This quick and easy skillet meal combines tender seafood with aromatic herbs and spices, perfect for a comforting dinner that comes together in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Shrimp Marinade

  • 1.1 pounds shrimp – peeled and deveined
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp sweet paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

Other Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 14 ounces mushrooms – sliced
  • 6 garlic cloves – minced
  • ½ tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan
  • 2 tbsp chopped parsley
  • Chili flakes – for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the shrimp: In a bowl, combine the peeled and deveined shrimp with salt, black pepper, sweet paprika, and garlic powder. Toss well to coat evenly and set aside to marinate briefly.
  2. Prep additional ingredients: Grate the Parmesan cheese, mince the garlic cloves, slice the mushrooms, and chop the parsley to have all ready for cooking.
  3. Sear the shrimp: Heat olive oil and unsalted butter over high heat in a large nonstick skillet. Place the shrimp in a single layer and sear for 1 minute on each side until just cooked through. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
  4. Sauté mushrooms and garlic: In the same skillet, add the sliced mushrooms. Cook them over medium-high heat until they release their moisture and begin to brown. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.
  5. Add seasonings and cream: Stir in the Italian seasoning, then pour in the heavy cream. Reduce heat slightly and let the cream simmer for 2 minutes to thicken slightly.
  6. Finish the sauce and combine: Lower the heat to medium-low, stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until melted and well incorporated. Toss the cooked shrimp and chopped parsley back into the skillet. Let everything simmer together for 1 minute so the flavors meld.
  7. Serve: Finish with freshly grated black pepper and a sprinkle of chili flakes for a spicy kick. Serve the creamy mushroom shrimp immediately while hot and creamy. Enjoy your delicious meal!

Notes

  • Use fresh shrimp for best flavor and texture, but thawed frozen shrimp works well too.
  • Adjust the chili flakes amount to your preferred spice level or omit them for a milder dish.
  • Parmesan cheese adds a nutty richness; substitute with Pecorino Romano if desired.
  • Serve over pasta, rice, or with crusty bread to soak up the creamy sauce.
  • To make the dish dairy-free, substitute heavy cream with coconut cream and use a vegan Parmesan alternative.
