This Creamiest Avocado Crema is a smooth, tangy, and refreshing sauce made with ripe avocado, sour cream, lime juice, and garlic. Perfect for drizzling over Mexican and Tex-Mex dishes, using as a sandwich spread, or enjoying as a dip or dressing, it’s a versatile and naturally gluten-free addition to your fridge.

Ingredients

Avocado Crema

  • ⅔ cup sour cream
  • ½ large ripe avocado, peeled
  • 1 large garlic clove, finely chopped
  • 1 lime, zested and juiced
  • Pinch of Kosher salt
  • Milk (optional, for thinning out crema)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Gather all ingredients including sour cream, ripe avocado, garlic, lime (zested and juiced), Kosher salt, and optionally milk for thinning.
  2. Blend or Whisk Mixture: Place sour cream, avocado, garlic, lime zest and juice, and salt in a blender. Process until very smooth. Alternatively, whisk all ingredients together in a bowl until smooth.
  3. Adjust Consistency: If the crema is too thick, add a splash of milk to thin it to your preferred consistency.
  4. Refrigerate: Cover the avocado crema and refrigerate until ready to use to let the flavors meld.

Notes

  • Storage: Refrigerate in an airtight container with plastic wrap pressed directly on the surface for 4–5 days. Stir before serving.
  • Freezing: Freeze in ice cube trays for up to 2 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator and stir smooth before serving.
