Crab Rangoon Melt is a delicious fusion sandwich featuring a creamy crab and cheese filling reminiscent of classic crab rangoon flavors, melted between buttery toasted sourdough bread slices. This quick and easy skillet-cooked sandwich is perfect for a comforting lunch or snack.

Ingredients

Filling

  • 4 ounces cream cheese (softened)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 green onion (chopped)
  • ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon soy sauce
  • ½ teaspoon minced garlic
  • ½ teaspoon granulated sugar
  • ½ cup cooked crab meat (drained)

Bread and Butter

  • 8 slices sourdough bread
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, shredded mozzarella, chopped green onion, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, minced garlic, granulated sugar, and drained cooked crab meat. Mix until you achieve a smooth and creamy consistency.
  2. Preheat the Skillet: Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat to prepare for toasting the sandwiches.
  3. Butter the Bread: Butter one side of each slice of sourdough bread evenly to ensure a golden, crispy texture when cooked.
  4. Assemble the Sandwich: Place one slice of bread butter-side down in the preheated skillet. Spread about ¼ cup of the crab filling evenly over the bread, then top with another slice of bread, butter-side up, to close the sandwich.
  5. Cook the Sandwich: Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook the sandwich for 3-4 minutes on one side until golden brown and crispy. Carefully flip the sandwich and cook the other side for another 3-4 minutes until both sides are golden and the filling is warm and melted.
  6. Serve: Remove from skillet and serve warm, ideally paired with sweet chili sauce or garlic chili oil for dipping.

Notes

  • Use cooked crab meat that is well-drained to avoid soggy filling.
  • Adjust the amount of soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce to taste for saltiness.
  • For a spicier kick, add a pinch of crushed red pepper or sriracha to the filling.
  • Butter the bread evenly to achieve a uniform golden crust.
  • If preferred, substitute sourdough with other sturdy bread like ciabatta or Texas toast.
