A zesty and refreshing Bloody Mary Shrimp Cocktail that features grilled shrimp seasoned with Old Bay and smoked spices, paired with a tangy, spicy cocktail sauce made from ketchup, horseradish, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce. Perfect as a flavorful appetizer or party snack.

Ingredients

Shrimp

  • 1 lb frozen shrimp, cooked, deveined, and peeled with the tail on
  • 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper

Cocktail Sauce

  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 2 teaspoon prepared horseradish
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon celery salt
  • 1 teaspoon Frank’s hot sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper

Garnishes

  • Celery leaves or thin stalks
  • Cornichons
  • Olives (for skewers)

Instructions

  1. Defrost Shrimp: Place the bag of frozen shrimp in the refrigerator overnight to thaw. If short on time, submerge the sealed bag in a bowl of cool water for 20-30 minutes until thawed.
  2. Prepare Cocktail Sauce: In a bowl, combine ketchup, prepared horseradish, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, celery salt, Frank’s hot sauce, and freshly cracked black pepper. Stir well to mix. Cover and refrigerate to let flavors meld for at least an hour.
  3. Season Shrimp: Remove thawed shrimp from the bag and pat dry if needed. Toss them with Old Bay seasoning, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and freshly cracked black pepper to fully coat.
  4. Grill Shrimp: Heat a grill pan over medium heat. Place the seasoned shrimp on the pan and grill for about 1 minute on each side until heated through and with slight char marks.
  5. Assemble and Garnish: Thread the grilled shrimp onto skewers with olives and cornichons. Arrange celery leaves or stalks on the serving platter. Serve the shrimp skewers alongside the chilled Bloody Mary cocktail sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • Store leftover shrimp and cocktail sauce in separate airtight containers in the refrigerator and consume within 1-2 days for optimal freshness.
  • If you forgot to defrost shrimp overnight, use the quick thaw method by placing the sealed bag in a bowl of cool water for 20-30 minutes.
  • For enhanced flavor, sprinkle extra Old Bay seasoning atop the shrimp just before serving.
  • Allow the cocktail sauce to chill in the fridge for at least an hour before serving to intensify the flavors.
  • Prepare the sauce and shrimp separately if making ahead, then assemble right before serving.
