A fresh and vibrant twist on the classic Italian Caprese salad, combining ripe strawberries, creamy fresh mozzarella, fragrant basil, and a rich balsamic glaze for a sweet and tangy flavor.

Ingredients

  • Fresh strawberries, sliced (about 2 cups)
  • Fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced or torn (8 oz)
  • Fresh basil leaves (1/2 cup)
  • Balsamic glaze (store-bought or homemade, about 1/4 cup)
  • Extra virgin olive oil (2 tablespoons)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Wash and slice the strawberries into thin slices.
  2. Slice or tear the fresh mozzarella into bite-sized pieces.
  3. On a large plate or serving platter, alternate layers of strawberries, mozzarella, and basil leaves.
  4. Drizzle extra virgin olive oil evenly over the arranged salad.
  5. Generously drizzle balsamic glaze on top. If making balsamic glaze from scratch, reduce balsamic vinegar over medium heat until thickened (about 10-15 minutes).
  6. Sprinkle a pinch of salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
  7. Serve immediately for the freshest taste, or chill briefly to let the flavors meld.

Notes

  • Serve fresh as strawberries release moisture and basil wilts quickly.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 day; keep balsamic glaze separate until serving.
  • Variations include adding arugula, substituting peaches or nectarines for strawberries, adding toasted nuts, or swapping mozzarella with burrata.
