Ingredients

Cheese

  • 12 pieces Babybel cheese

Coating

  • 3/4 cup Italian bread crumbs
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp granulated garlic (or to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (or to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp dried parsley flakes

Egg Wash

  • 2 eggs

Additional

  • Non-stick cooking spray (preferably avocado oil spray)

Instructions

  1. Unwrap Cheese: Start by carefully removing the plastic and wax from each piece of Babybel cheese to prepare them for coating.
  2. Prepare Egg Wash: In a bowl, beat the 2 eggs thoroughly to create an egg wash for coating.
  3. Mix Coating Ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine the Italian bread crumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, salt, cayenne pepper, granulated garlic, and dried parsley flakes. Mix well to evenly distribute the seasonings.
  4. Preheat Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 5 minutes to ensure a crispy finish.
  5. First Coat with Flour: Dip each piece of cheese into the flour, tapping off any excess to ensure a thin, even layer.
  6. First Egg Dip: Next, dip the floured cheese into the beaten eggs, fully coating it.
  7. First Breadcrumb Coat: Transfer the egg-coated cheese to the breadcrumb mixture and coat thoroughly on all sides.
  8. Second Egg Dip: Repeat by dipping the breadcrumb-coated cheese back into the egg wash for a second batter layer.
  9. Second Breadcrumb Coat: Dredge the cheese once again in the breadcrumb mixture for a double coating, ensuring maximum crispiness.
  10. Repeat Coating: Continue coating each piece of Babybel cheese by repeating the flour, egg, and breadcrumb steps until all pieces are ready.
  11. Prepare Air Fryer Basket: Lightly spray the air fryer basket with non-stick cooking spray, preferably avocado oil spray to prevent sticking and promote browning.
  12. Air Fry: Place the coated Babybel pieces in the air fryer basket without overcrowding. Air fry at 400°F for 5 minutes until golden and crispy.
  13. Remove and Serve: Use tongs to carefully remove the hot cheese bites from the air fryer to avoid burns. Serve immediately with marinara sauce while still hot for the best melty experience.

Notes

  • Enjoy the cheese bites immediately after air frying as they tend to lose their crispy texture if left out too long.
  • Adjust seasoning quantities like salt, cayenne, and garlic powder to your personal taste preferences.
  • Always use tongs when removing cheese from the air fryer to prevent burns as they will be very hot.
  • There is no need to flip the cheese during cooking; the air fryer circulates hot air to cook evenly.
